How to find motivation for goals that you want to finish?

Just wanted to share a few heuristics, rules, or suggestions for finding the will and motivation that I gathered over time with trial and error. (About a similar topic I also wrote in this post)

Behavioral

  • Tell your friends that you will finish the goal by the end of this week (or by an arbitrary amount of time)
  • Schedule a certain time period
  • Remove all distractions
    • for example: activate website blockers, remove the mobile phone, lock the room
  • Write down the tasks
  • Find the smallest unit of work that you can finish
  • Exercise before
  • Do it as the first thing of the day
  • Finish a task before
    • for example: make the bed, clean the room

Mental

  • Better finished, then perfect
  • No one else can realize this in this time and space except me
  • If I make this right now, it will be easier in the future
  • I’m missing lifting the suffering of other people if I don’t realize the task
  • I can always postpone, so it’s time to stop avoiding and do it right now
  • I cannot disappoint my friends or my family
  • The time is finite, and I have to use every bit of it
  • Understand the voice in your head that’s finding the excuses
  • Channel your anger (here you can find more)
  • Translate the uncomfortable feeling as a signal for movement towards the source and not as a signal for avoidance
