Just wanted to share a few heuristics, rules, or suggestions for finding the will and motivation that I gathered over time with trial and error. (About a similar topic I also wrote in this post)
Behavioral
- Tell your friends that you will finish the goal by the end of this week (or by an arbitrary amount of time)
- Schedule a certain time period
- Remove all distractions
- for example: activate website blockers, remove the mobile phone, lock the room
- Write down the tasks
- Find the smallest unit of work that you can finish
- Exercise before
- Do it as the first thing of the day
- Finish a task before
- for example: make the bed, clean the room
Mental
- Better finished, then perfect
- No one else can realize this in this time and space except me
- If I make this right now, it will be easier in the future
- I’m missing lifting the suffering of other people if I don’t realize the task
- I can always postpone, so it’s time to stop avoiding and do it right now
- I cannot disappoint my friends or my family
- The time is finite, and I have to use every bit of it
- Understand the voice in your head that’s finding the excuses
- Channel your anger (here you can find more)
- Translate the uncomfortable feeling as a signal for movement towards the source and not as a signal for avoidance
